Repair is increasingly part of the discussion around circularity in the fashion industry. While its primary purpose is to extend the life of garments, what is often overlooked is that repair can also provide brands with valuable insights into how products perform once they leave the point of sale.
Against this background, Luisa Cerano has partnered with Repair Rebels, a Düsseldorf-based repair platform founded by Dr. Monika Hauck that aims to make textile and shoe repairs digital, convenient and stylish. Together, they will trial a repair service for Luisa Cerano with a selected group of customers across Germany.
During the pilot, participating customers will be able to submit Luisa Cerano garments for repair through a special platform developed by Repair Rebels. The repairs will be carried out in-house, which will allow Luisa Cerano to gain direct experience and valuable information regarding the feasibility of a repair service for a premium medium-sized fashion brand. At the same time, the platform will enable the collection of statistical data on the repair requests, providing further insights into customer demand and the types of damage encountered.
By analysing the types of damage that occur, identifying the components that fail most often and assessing the effort to repair them, patterns will emerge that can inform future decisions in design, sourcing and production that go beyond simply sourcing low-impact materials.
For the fashion industry, such initiatives can help build a better understanding of what repair looks like in practice, not only as a service for customers, but also as a source of knowledge.
